Wine Regions
Roussillon
This area was part of Spain until 1659 and the mix of cultures is still very much alive here. It is located between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Pyrénées and is famous for fortified (sweet wines) but is now producing some excellent red wines. The more well-known regions are:
- Rivesaltes
- Cotês de Roussillon
- Collioure
- Maury
- Muscat de Rivesaltes
- Banyuls
Languedoc
This area stretches from the edge of Provence southwest to just below the city of Perpignan, where the Roussillon begins. The region is bordered by the Montagne Noir on the northern edge, the Mediterranean Sea on the eastern and southeastern edge and the foothills of the Pyrénées Mountains on the west and southwest. There are many tiny appellations in the Languedoc, the largest wine producing area in the world. Some of our favorites are:
- Pic St-Loup
- Coteaux du Languedoc
- Picpoul de Pinet
- Corbières
- Faugères
- Fitou
- Limoux
- Minervois
- Minervois La Liviniere
- Muscat de St-Jean-de-Minervois
- Saint Chinian (encompassing Berlou and Roquebrun)
- La Clape
- Terrasses du Larzac
- Montpeyroux
Within these regions there are micro-terroirs and many varying AOC and IGP designations.
